The Hi-Nu Gundam that Tomino always intended
Amuro Ray's true final machine. In the original Char's Counterattack film, the RX-93 Nu Gundam was what Bandai could produce at scale in 1988. The RX-93-ν2 Hi-Nu Gundam came from Yoshiyuki Tomino's novel Beltorchika's Children — the version he actually wrote. Larger, more aggressive in silhouette, and crowned with six fin funnels that spread out from the back in a distinctive wing formation. This is the kit that completes that story.
Hajime Katoki's Ver.Ka treatment refines those proportions into modern kit form. Sharp panelling, strong colour separation across the white and purple armour, and a backpack system that earns its complexity. If you have the MG Nu Gundam Ver.Ka on the shelf already, this is its counterpart. If you don't, this is the better starting point for the Char's Counterattack MSV lineup.
Build difficulty
This is a Skill Level 3 build. 26 runners, individually articulated MG 3.0-style fingers, and six fin funnels that each require their own large water slide decal. The fin funnel decals are the hardest part of the kit — each one is a single large sheet that wraps around the cylindrical body of the funnel, and Bandai supplies exactly one set. There are no spares. Builders consistently flag this as the part of the kit that rewards patience above everything else. Allow 20 to 30 hours total for a panel-lined and decal-complete build. Experienced builders recommend completing each major sub-assembly section and applying its decals before moving on, rather than leaving all decals until the final stage.
Technical highlights
The kit runs on the same inner frame architecture as the MG Nu Gundam Ver.Ka, with the same piston detail on the knees and similar armour opening gimmicks throughout. Shoulder hatches open to reveal the internal frame. Lower leg panels open to expose thrusters. Back skirt opens. A Gatling gun sits hidden in the right forearm; a beam saber hilt hides in the left. The head supports an LED unit for illuminated eyes — sold separately, Bandai recommends green. Colour separation is strong and the armour parts are largely undergated, which keeps nub cleanup to a manageable level given the part count. The three sections of off-white armour on the fin funnel mounts will benefit from paint or panel wash to separate them visually from the main white armour.
What makes this kit special
-
Six fin funnels in deployed configuration: the defining visual of the Hi-Nu Gundam, mounted on individual articulating arms from the backpack — the stand allows you to display the full spread above the kit.
-
Amuro-themed display stand included: custom stand with a clear support piece that slots into the Hi-Nu's back, designed to hold the kit upright with the fin funnels deployed without relying on the backpack mass for balance.
-
MG 3.0 individually articulated fingers: each finger joint moves independently, which opens up a wide range of weapon-gripping and open-hand poses.
-
Arm gimmicks: Gatling gun hidden in the right forearm, beam saber stowage in the left — both accessible by pulling away the outer armour panel.
-
LED support built in: the head unit accepts a Bandai LED for illuminated green eyes; the connection point is accessible from the back of the head.
-
1/100 Amuro Ray pilot figure: the same figure included with the MG Nu Gundam Ver.Ka, now with a cockpit hatch on the Hi-Nu that opens to seat him.
-
Full weapon complement: hyper beam rifle, bazooka with extending barrel and backpack storage peg, shield with missile detail, four beam saber hilts, two beam saber effects in clear blue plastic.

Compatible accessories
No display base is included beyond the Amuro-themed stand. For dynamic low-angle poses and off-ground displays, pair the Bandai 1/100 MG Hi-Nu Gundam Ver.Ka with the Bandai Action Base 4, the standard 1/100 scale display stand.
Build your Char's Counterattack collection
The Hi-Nu sits at the end of the Universal Century's most personal rivalry. The natural companion on the shelf is the Bandai 1/100 MG RX-93 Nu Gundam Ver.Ka — same series, same Katoki treatment, the suit the Hi-Nu was designed to replace in the official canon. Stock is limited.

What to watch for
The fin funnel water slide decals are the most reported challenge with this kit. Each funnel gets one large decal that wraps around its cylindrical body. The sheet is not replicated — apply carefully, use decal softener, and work on one funnel at a time. A hobby vice or helping hands tool makes this significantly easier by freeing up both hands during application. Multiple builders note that the finger joints on the MG 3.0 hands can loosen when too much lateral pressure is applied — avoid forcing fingers into extreme positions. The fin funnel dock connectors are tight fits; when removing a deployed funnel, hold the dock connector rather than the funnel body or the connector may detach with the funnel. The kit is back-heavy with the fin funnels deployed; the included stand addresses this, but the clear support piece that pegs into the back is the structural solution — do not display without it attached if the fin funnels are spread.
Builder tip: Complete and decal each major sub-assembly — torso, legs, arms, backpack, fin funnels — as a separate section before final assembly. The fin funnel cylindrical bodies are far easier to decal before the connector hardware is attached. The off-white sections on the fin funnel mounts will benefit from a light panel wash or careful painting with a Gundam Marker to visually separate them from the main armour.
Build notes
No glue required. Recommended tools: nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks, fine-grit sandpaper, tweezers, panel lining pen, decal softener and setting solution, hobby vice (strongly recommended for fin funnel decal work). LED unit is optional but substantially improves the head's presence — Bandai's own recommendation is green; clear blue also works and shifts the psychoframe colour story slightly. Recommended age 15 and over. Estimated build time 20 to 30 hours for a panel-lined and decal-complete build.
