The antagonist's Gundam, in its original colours
The RX-178 Gundam Mk-II was developed at the Gryps colony complex in UC 0087 as the next step in Earth Federation mobile suit engineering after the original Gundam. Three units were built for evaluation. The Titans — the Federation's elite counter-insurgency force — took control of the programme and deployed all three units at Green Noa colony. During the AEUG raid on Green Noa, Emma Sheen defected and the AEUG captured the suits. The Mk-IIs were repainted into the white and red AEUG scheme. The dark navy and charcoal you see here is the original factory configuration, straight out of the Titans hangar.
Multiple pilots flew the Titans Mk-IIs: Jerid Messa, Kacricon Casshern, and Emma Sheen before her defection. The Titans scheme is the antagonist faction's livery, and in the Master Grade Ver. 2.0 it reads as a genuinely imposing display piece — the dark colour separation is strong, the sharp armour edges land cleanly, and the white Titans insignia on the shoulder pops against the navy.
Build difficulty
This is an Intermediate build — Skill Level 2. The Ver. 2.0 inner frame builds as a full skeleton before armour application, which adds a satisfying extra phase to the build but does extend the time investment beyond a standard snap-together HG. Budget 6 to 10 hours across a few sessions. The instructions are clear and the part separation is logical. A hobby knife, nippers, sanding stick, and tweezers cover everything you need. No glue required. The shield assembles from multiple sub-components and requires patience to get the clips seated cleanly — take your time there. Recommended for builders who have completed at least one or two HG kits.
Technical highlights
The Ver. 2.0 inner frame is the structural centrepiece of this kit. The full skeleton — torso, limbs, spine — assembles and articulates independently before any outer armour is applied. The inner frame is moulded in a lavender-grey tone, which contrasts clearly with the dark navy exterior armour. Colour separation is handled through part moulding rather than paint, so the Titans scheme is accurate to the animation design out of the box. The Gundam Mk-II stands approximately 136mm tall completed. The kit includes vinyl tubing used in the weapon and frame detail. The hip and shoulder joints are ball-type, providing a wide range of poses; the hip joints in particular respond well to initial posing but can gradually loosen with repeated heavy repositioning over time. Arms do not raise to full horizontal extension — a constraint of the 2005 joint engineering.
What makes this kit special
-
Ver. 2.0 inner frame engineering: the skeleton assembles fully before armour goes on — a genuine two-phase build that shows off the internal structure before it's closed up.
-
Strong moulded colour separation: navy, charcoal, and white Titans insignia are achieved through individual part colours, no masking or painting needed for faction accuracy.
-
Complete combat loadout in the box: Hyper Bazooka, Beam Rifle, Shield, two Beam Sabers, and a Core Fighter — the full Mk-II configuration.
-
MS Catapult display stand included: lets you recreate the hangar launch-bay configuration straight from the box.
-
Scale figures included: one pilot figure and two maintenance crew figures for a docked display around the catapult stand.
-
Antagonist shelf presence: the Titans dark scheme holds up as a display piece and balances cleanly against an AEUG white-and-red Mk-II on the same shelf.

Compatible accessories
The Mk-II's catapult display stand is included in the box, so you have a display option from day one. For dynamic mid-flight or action poses that the catapult stand doesn't cover, the Bandai Action Base 4 is the standard 1/100 display stand and fits the Mk-II's connection point. Available in black and clear.
Build your Zeta Gundam collection
The Mk-II was the suit that started everything in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. The AEUG counterpart to this kit — the white and red scheme Kamille Bidan took into battle — is available in the HGUC RX-178 Gundam Mk II (AEUG) Revive at 1/144 scale for a grade comparison on the same shelf.

What to watch for
The shield assembly has multiple sub-components that clip together, and the tolerances are snug. Work through each step in the instructions rather than rushing it — the clips seat properly once you have them aligned. The hip ball joints are solid for display posing but builders who regularly repose their kits report some loosening over time; a small application of Tamiya Joint Compound or clear nail polish to the ball can restore friction if needed. The arms have a limited horizontal range compared to more recent MG kits — a constraint of the 2005 joint design. Plan dynamic arm poses within that range. The vinyl tubing for the weapons and frame detail is a hands-on step; the instructions show the routing clearly.
Build notes
No glue needed. Snap-fit throughout. Tools recommended: side-cutters (nippers), hobby knife, sanding stick (400-600 grit), tweezers. The inner frame phase builds the full skeleton before any outer armour is applied — plan for a multi-session build if you want to work through each phase carefully. Dry transfer decals and a foil sticker sheet are included; decal application tools and a soft burnishing tool make the transfer step cleaner. Recommended age: 15 and over. Build time estimate: 6–10 hours depending on pace and level of finish.
