Zechs' dragon. The most dangerous suit in the After Colony timeline.
By the end of Gundam Wing, Heero Yuy had fought his way through half a war in Zechs Merquise's Epyon. Then Zechs took it back. In Endless Waltz, the suit was redesigned by Katoki Hajime into something more angular and more threatening. Longer proportions, sharper armour lines, and a wing backpack that dwarfs the mobile suit underneath it. This is that version.
The OZ-13MS Epyon was built around Zechs from the start. The Epyon System locks pilot and mobile suit into a single targeting loop, removing any distance between intent and action. On the shelf, that translates into one of the most distinctive silhouettes in the Master Grade line: a red-and-navy suit that looks like it means business even standing still.
Build difficulty
This is a Skill Level 3 build. The full MS-to-MA (dragon) transformation requires a genuine parts rearrangement. The feet open into dragon heads, the rear skirt panels swing out, and the legs rotate over to form the dragon body. First-time transformations take patience. Experienced builders report the second transformation is considerably smoother once the sequence is understood. The heat rod assembly alone runs to 30 individual pieces across 10 sections. Set aside a weekend for the full build. Recommended for builders who have completed at least two or three Master Grade kits before attempting this one.
Technical highlights
The inner frame runs throughout the torso and limbs, with double-jointed elbows and a ball-and-socket waist rotation. The arms can swing fully forward for reaching poses and rotate on the shoulder peg. Knee bend reaches roughly 90 degrees. The wing backpack is large enough to function as a rear stand. Tip the wings down and the kit will hold a standing pose without an action base. The cockpit hatch opens to reveal the included Zechs Merquise pilot figurine. Colour separation in the standard release uses runner-moulded dark navy, red, gold, and grey. Panel lining sharpens the look considerably. A topcoat over the marking stickers (water-based recommended, given the PP parts in the kit) locks the finish.
What makes this kit special
-
Full MS-to-dragon transformation: the feet open into dragon jaws, the legs rotate over, and the rear skirts swing out. A real reconfiguration, not a panel swap.
-
Heat rod whip assembly: 10 sections, 30 individual pieces, connected on a flexible cable mount. The pull-out gimmick deploys it into bending poses from the side skirt mount point.
-
Beam Sword with power cord: the cord connects hilt to waist mount and can be displayed taut or looped.
-
Wing backpack size: the backpack is larger than the suit itself and articulates at the verniers and side fins. It also tips down to serve as a floor-stand in MS mode.
-
Two pilot figurines included: one seated (for the open cockpit) and one standing, both Zechs Merquise / Milliardo Peacecraft.
-
Katoki Hajime redesign: the EW version features sharper angles and longer proportions than the original Epyon design, with marking stickers from Katoki Hajime included in the box.
-
Action base adapters: two included. One for MS Mode, one for MA Mode, compatible with Action Bases 1 and 4.

- Beam Sword with Power Cord and Hilt Connector
- Waist Connector for Beam Sword mount
- Manipulators: weapon-holding hands (1 pair), closed fist (1 pair), open-palm (1 pair)

Compatible accessories
No display base is included with the kit. For airborne poses in MS Mode or the full dragon spread in MA Mode, a display stand makes a real difference. The Epyon includes adapters for Action Bases 1 and 4. Check the Mecha Express accessories section for current display stand availability.
Build your Gundam Wing collection
The Epyon's natural shelf partners are Heero's suit and the OZ machine that preceded it. Two options currently in stock:
-
Bandai 1/100 MG Wing Gundam Ver.Ka — Katoki Hajime's definitive take on Heero Yuy's suit, the same designer as the Epyon EW. At 1/100 scale they display side by side in perfect proportion.
-
Bandai RG 1/144 Wing Gundam — Heero's suit in the Real Grade line. At a different scale to the Epyon, but a strong display piece in its own right.

What to watch for
Nub marks land in visible spots on this kit: the ankle armour, shoulder sections, cockpit area, and forearms. Budget time for nub cleanup on those areas before the armour goes on. The heat rod assembly (30 pieces across 10 sections) is the most fiddly part of the build. Work slowly and check the flex of each section before snapping the next one on. The shoulder peg connection can work loose when posing the arms, particularly if you're moving the shoulder armour out of the way for a wider arm extension. A drop of Blutack on the peg resolves it. In MA mode, the dragon-head feet are held together with a ball joint that can feel loose before the wings lock in. Once the backpack is clipped on, the whole assembly stiffens up considerably.
Builder tip: Do the transformation once before you apply decals and topcoat. Understanding the sequence first means you won't stress-mark any finished parts working out which way the legs rotate. The rear skirt panels need to fully clear the leg joints before anything else moves.
Build notes
No glue required. Snap-fit assembly throughout. Recommended tools: nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks, tweezers, and decal softener for the Katoki Hajime marking stickers. Estimated build time: 6 to 10 hours for a straight snap build, longer if decaling and panel lining. PP parts are present in the kit. Use a water-based topcoat, not solvent-based, to protect decals over those sections. Recommended age: 15 and over.
