Duo Maxwell's God of Death — in its final form
This is the XXXG-01D2 Gundam Deathscythe Hell, Duo Maxwell's upgraded mobile suit from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. The Hell upgrade takes the original Deathscythe and rebuilds it around a defining new feature: the active cloak, two large bat-wing binders that fold open to frame the suit in full attack display. It is one of the most visually dramatic silhouettes in the Wing lineup, and this Master Grade kit reproduces it faithfully in 1/100 scale.
The Deathscythe Hell sits alongside Wing Gundam Ver.Ka, Heavyarms EW, Sandrock EW, and Shenlong EW as part of Hajime Katoki's unified Endless Waltz redesign of the five Gundam pilots' suits. All five share the XXXG design philosophy and Katoki's signature clean line work. On a shelf together they read as a deliberate set.
Build difficulty
This is a Skill Level 2 Master Grade. The core build — torso, limbs, inner frame assembly, and weapons — runs at a confident beginner-to-intermediate pace. The cloak is where the kit earns its complexity: the bat-wing binders are large parts with their own articulated sub-assemblies, and getting the cloak to open smoothly and stay posed requires some patience during fitting. Part count is in the mid-range for a 1/100 MG. Builders who have completed one or two MG kits before will move through this one without trouble. First-time MG builders should allow extra time for the cloak section and read the manual carefully before committing parts. Expected build time is 8 to 12 hours for a clean snap-and-panel-line build.
Technical highlights
The active cloak is the engineering headline. Each binder is independently articulated and can be posed open, partially spread, or fully closed behind the suit. The twin beam scythe assembles from individual parts and locks into the hand grip for weapon-forward display poses. The hyper jammer system is represented on the kit with the distinctive shoulder pods that give the suit its stealth capability in lore. The XXXG-series joint structure gives the kit solid posability at the shoulders, hips, and knees — enough to hit Duo's signature attack crouch with the scythe raised and wings open. No LED, no action base included. Colour separation is strong: the kit builds in black, dark grey, green, and red without painting, accurately matching the suit's Endless Waltz colour scheme.
What makes this kit special
-
Active cloak with spread gimmick: the bat-wing binders open on an articulated mechanism, letting you display the kit mid-attack with wings fully extended — the pose the suit is known for across the series.
-
Twin beam scythe: Duo's signature weapon builds in sections and poses cleanly in hand, giving the kit its centrepiece display weapon.
-
Hyper jammer system: the shoulder-mounted jammer pods are included and accurately represented, completing the Hell's distinctive silhouette for collectors who care about the lore detail.
-
Hajime Katoki design markings: the decals and marking detail follow Katoki's Endless Waltz redesign exactly, with sharp panel lines and a colour scheme that holds up on the shelf without any paint work.
-
XXXG design family: built within Katoki's unified Endless Waltz framework, the kit pairs naturally with Wing Gundam Ver.Ka and the other four EW MGs for collectors building the full five-suit set.

What to watch for
The active cloak binders are the build's main challenge point. The hinge mechanism requires careful part alignment during assembly — rushing the cloak section and forcing parts into position is the most common cause of loose or misaligned wings reported by builders. Take it slowly. Test the range of motion before fully committing each hinge peg.
The twin beam scythe grip can feel loose depending on which hand part you use. Try the closed-fist hand part rather than the trigger-grip if the weapon feels unstable in display.
Nub marks on the black outer armour panels are the most visible clean-up targets. Black plastic shows gate marks clearly — a hobby knife and a light sand will sharpen the finish significantly on the shoulder and leg armour.
Builder tip: build the inner frame first and test all joint ranges before adding outer armour. The hip and shoulder joints on the XXXG frame have a defined range of motion, and knowing where those limits sit before the armour is on saves you pulling panels off to adjust poses later.
Build notes
No glue required. Snap-fit construction throughout. Tools needed: nippers, hobby knife, sanding sticks. A panel lining marker (any colour — grey or black works on the green and dark grey panels) will lift the finished look considerably without adding significant build time. Recommended age: 15 and over. Estimated build time: 8 to 12 hours for a clean snap-and-panel-line build.
