Bandai SDW HEROES Arsene Gundam X

The phantom thief of SD Gundam World Heroes, with weapons that tuck into the cloak

This is the SDW HEROES Arsene Gundam X, No.10 in the SD Gundam World Heroes model series, released by Bandai in October 2021. Bandai describes it as a new character with a phantom thief motif. The weapons can be stored on the back and inside the cloak, so the kit can switch between a clean silhouette and an armed one.

Build difficulty

Skill Level 1. Bandai rates the kit for ages 8 and up and it comes with a foil seal sheet. Reviewers say a fair amount of the colour detail is left to seals and paint, so the time cost is in the finishing rather than the building.

Technical highlights

  • G Controller with a swappable tip, so one grip can become different weapons.
  • Four types of attachment parts per Bandai's accessory list. Reviewers describe a whip, a drill and a claw among the swappable weapon tips.
  • Detachable monocle and a cloak that opens to the left and right.
  • Back reflector unit that deploys, and can attach to the G Controller for a floating display pose per one review.

What makes this kit special

  • Phantom thief theme: a new character design in the SD Gundam World Heroes line, built on the Gundam X look.
  • Weapon storage: Bandai states the weapons store on the back and inside the cloak.
  • Colour separation: one reviewer found it better separated than a typical SDW Heroes kit, with white and blue as the main colours plus gold and clear parts on the chest.

What's in the box

  • Pre-coloured runners in white and blue, with gold and clear parts and red cloak parts
  • G Controller x1
  • Attachment parts x4 types
  • Foil seal x1
  • Instruction manual

Not included: an Action Base. The clear stand shown in Bandai's photography is sold separately.

Compatible accessories

Bandai's photos show the kit posed on a clear Action Base, noted as sold separately. One reviewer confirms there is a 3 mm stand hole.

What to watch for

Drawing on a Japanese builder blog and a community post. Coverage is thin, so treat the smaller points as single-reviewer notes:

  • Some builders say the kit relies heavily on foil seals, and some of the white and silver areas still look plain without paint.
  • One reviewer found the monocle fits loosely and can fall off if bumped.
  • One reviewer noted hollow areas on the foot soles.
  • One reviewer noted the white back of the cloak is a large plain area that needs paint if you want it detailed.

Build notes

Painting is optional. Suitable for ages 8 and up per Bandai.

Assembly Guide

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED
Skill Level.1. Most adults & children can assemble Skill Level 1 kits with little to no difficulty. Very basic hobby tools are recommended including a pair of nippers, a hobby knife, but are not essential. No Glue is needed for these kits. Kits are all snap together build and most parts can be removed by twisting and pushing without the need to snip with nippers.
No Cement Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are a snap together assembly and do not need plastic cement to complete. We always recommend having some plastic cement handy as a part of your modeler's tool kit. If you prefer to fix your model in a particular pose then plastic cement will work. Plastic cement is also perfect to use if a joint is loose. Apply plastic cement in a single thin layer and allow it to dry completely before test fitting. Re-apply more cement if necessary.

No Painting Required

Gunpla (plastic model kits) are designed to be built and displayed without the need for painting. Kits are molded in different colours replicating the colours of the actual mecha from the Mecha series. A technique called colour separation, where multiple parts of the model are molded in different colours on the same sprue is also used. Mecha kits often include stickers or water-slide decals that can be applied to the model to enhance its appearance. Some Gunpla kits come with pre-painted parts or parts with pre-applied details, such as metallic or translucent finishes.

Many modelers still choose to paint their kits to customize and add further detail. Painting allows for more creativity and personalization, enabling modelers to achieve unique effects, weathering, and colour schemes that may not be available out of the box. However, the kits are designed to be enjoyable and visually appealing even without painting, making them accessible to a wide range of hobbyists.

The GX-9900 Gundam X is available in both High Grade (HG) and Master Grade (MG).

Does the Gundam X's Gunpla model feature its iconic Satellite Cannon?

Yes, the Gundam X Gunpla, especially the MG version, showcases the Satellite Cannon, replicating the weapon's grandeur and functionality from the series.

How often are these series of kits restocked at Mecha Express Australia

Bandai tends to re-release (reprint) Gunpla from this series maybe one or twice per calendar year.

MGEX Strike Freedom Golden Week deal

Awesome kit, great extras. Only criticism is that the kit comes with a base so you don't need the second one. The kit also doesn't have the ability to take the blue LED bonus so if you don't have another use for it it is wasted. Luckily, I'm a Gundam tragic so will always have uses for extra bases and lighting kits.

Excellent service and fast delivery

I purchased on 6 Jan and my order arrived on 13 Jan. It was very well packed, with both boxes in excellent condition. Cam even provided a small free gift in the box! Overall purchasing experience was smooth and hassle-free. I haven’t had the chance to build the kit yet, but based on the service and care taken with shipping, I would happily purchase from this store if there are other Space Battleship Yamato models available.

Very rare with fair price

If you were one of the lucky ones that were able to travel to Sydney Gundam Base pop-up in 2025 and queued extremely early (like the first 40 or so) on the first day, probably you were able to grab one of these. Otherwise, the only alternative I would know of is traveling to Japan and being uber lucky of having it still being sold at Gundam bases. Otherwise, it's a second-hand market, and prices will go up. That said, the price was fair, I think it would be similar price as using a dropship service from Japan, with the exception that it's much faster and way more guaranteed you will get proper merchandise. So, Mecha Express, Cam, thank you so much for your store!
